Tally charts: explained simply
A tally records how often something occurs. Marks are bundled in fives so you can count them quickly.
How to work it out
- Each mark represents one event or object.
- Draw four marks side by side, then the fifth across them. A complete bundle counts as 5.
An example, step by step
A row shows two bundles of five and three single marks.
- The two bundles count as 5 + 5 = 10.
- Add the 3 single marks.
- The row represents 13.
