Coordinates – worksheets to print

Read and plot points on a coordinate grid, join them and name the shape.

  • Choose the number of tasks and the difficulty yourself
  • With an answer sheet and, if you like, a QR code to the answers
  • At three levels (★ to ★★★) and as group A and B
  • As a single worksheet or as a task on a mixed worksheet
This is how it looks on the worksheet – with new numbers every time.

Coordinates: explained simply

A coordinate pair gives a point's exact position. The first number belongs to the horizontal x-axis and the second to the vertical y-axis.

How to work it out

  • For (x | y), start at the origin, move x units horizontally and then y units vertically.
  • On these sheets, points lie to the right of and above the origin, or on the axes. Read the scale: one unit need not equal one small square.

An example, step by step

Plot point A (3 | 2).

  1. Start at the origin, where the axes meet at 0.
  2. Move 3 units right and then 2 units up.
  3. Mark the point and label it A.

Understand other variations

Read points and join shapes

To read a point, trace back to the axes and read x and y. When joining points, use the given order and then identify the resulting shape.

Your turn

Where is B (2 | 3)?

Show the answer and method

From the origin, 2 units right and 3 units up.
