Continuing patterns: explained simply
A short sequence of shapes repeats. Find this repeating unit and draw the missing shapes.
How to work it out
- Check both shape and shading: an outline circle and a filled circle may be different parts of the pattern.
- Find the shortest complete sequence that repeats regularly. After its end, start again at its beginning.
An example, step by step
Circle, circle, triangle, circle, circle, triangle, □, □, □
- The repeating unit is circle, circle, triangle.
- After the second triangle, the same unit starts again.
- The next shapes are circle, circle and triangle.
