Calculation chains: explained simply
Start with a number and follow the calculation arrows. The answer to one step becomes the starting number for the next.
How to work it out
- Follow the arrows in the order shown.
- Each arrow is a separate calculation. Write its answer in the next box.
An example, step by step
Start at 8 → + 4 → · 3 → − 6
- First arrow: 8 + 4 = 12.
- Second arrow: continue with 12. Calculate 12 · 3 = 36.
- Third arrow: 36 − 6 = 30. The chain ends at 30.
Your turn
Start at 10 → − 4 → · 2 → + 5
Show the answer and method
